Beijing News: from the perspective of the world, what is the significance and effect of helping the existing railways to open suburban railways on the development of metropolitan areas?
Zhao Chunlei: I have been to Europe. Some suburban railways and trunk railways in France, Belgium and other countries are integrated. When leaving the city, the function is equivalent to what we usually call trunk railway. After entering the city, it will drill into the underground to serve the city, and the function is equivalent to urban subway.
The development of suburban railway in our country is not long, less than 10 years. Compared with the subway, the suburban railway is first of all relatively long distance, running faster, generally 120 kilometers per hour. For example, the S2 line in Beijing is more than 100 kilometers long from Shacheng, and the S5 line is more than 130 kilometers long from Qinghe to Gubeikou. In addition, suburban railway fares are cheaper.
For the public, there is an extra choice of travel with suburban railway. Moreover, suburban railway is very convenient to connect with other trunk railways. Suburban railway is a green mode of transportation. I think suburban railway has positive significance in solving the traffic congestion and blue sky defense war in big cities.

Zhao Chunlei: now there are three lines officially opened in Beijing. This year, we will electrify line S5 and connect it to Beijing North railway station.
